Suburbia ~ Well it’s been eight months since my last post and I have no idea where that time has gone. I had all intentions of keeping up with posting while packing to move but it just didn’t happen and living back in the city has taken much longer to adjust to than I expected and lets just say I’m tolerating it but I’m definitely not loving it at all. There’s constant traffic (on a main street) and noise from all around plus weird neighbours who decide to have screaming matches as they walk down the road, so yes absolutely not loving the city environment.
It’s not all bad though as there are quite a few things I am enjoying. The variety of shopping centers and the convenience of being able to get what I need when I want it, although it’s taken a bit to remember that woolies in the city isn’t open until 9pm as it is down south. So on occasion I’ve missed getting to the shop for bread or milk before the next morning but no biggie really.
I really like my cute old 70’s fibro home that’s elevated up off the ground and on a slight hill, it’s a nice feeling being able to walk out the front door of an evening and be able to look out over the rooves of other houses and enjoy the sunset.
I’m thoroughly enjoying having a decent size shed to work in and I’ve been in there regularly revamping different pieces and have even sold a couple now. I’ve also been given a tonne of tools from my dad that were his and my Grandfather’s and I love using them as I’m working. I’ve also invested in a few new pieces as well to make my revamping life easier.
And naturally I’ve started my veggie gardens up again much to hubby’s dismay lol but if I’m going to survive the city then I need to have a garden to work in and food to grow as it’s what keeps me sane. I started with one bed and just set a new one up on the weekend. I told Chris, it was another raised bed or chickens!! He went for the raised bed lol…..as much as I miss my girls and would love chickens again we know this move is only temporary and so we are trying to keep it minimal so it’s less to move in 18 months time.
I love being 5 minutes away from my soul sister Lyn, we catch up regularly and talk every day. If it wasn’t for her being down the road I don’t think I’d be doing as well as I am and believe me I have my days where all I want to do is go back down south but there’s a purpose to this move I can’t quite talk about yet and so for now this is where we need to be.
I honestly didn’t think it would take so long to adjust and find my feet in an area I lived in for many, many years before moving to the country but I now feel like a fish out of water and can’t wait to have the peace and space of country life once again. For now though I will stay focused on the garden and my revamping work. I’m currently working on a custom piece that’s due to be collected in just over a week and for me that’s exciting having someone request a piece. It definitely makes me feel like I’m on the right path.
Well, it’s lunch time and I’m starving so I better go fix me and Francis some lunch and get back to work and decide just how I’m going to revamp these drawers I’m working on. Take care and I’ll be back Friday for Friday’s Photography.
A bientôt......Michelle x
